Don't be Afraid of Statement Walls
The Seasons by May wallpaper from Morris & Co is used in this living room in an expressive yellow colour variation. The resulting eye-catching statement wall is contrasted with Blackthorn from the same manufacturer's colour range. The strong dark colour tone is equal to the colour weight of the accent wall. The room concept is rounded off by the soft red tone of the armchair, which was taken from the wallpaper.
Create contrasts with living room wallpaper
Since the living room is usually the largest room in a flat or house, a large-format motif like that of the Rovine by Arte International wallpaper comes into its own here. The colour off-black is a rather cool shade of grey that perfectly matches the colours of the wallpaper. The airy motif of the wallpaper allows the ceiling to be designed in the same, dark shade.
The living room shows well how lively rooms can be through contrasts. The warm brown of the sofa contrasts the rather cooler shades of the door, ceiling and wallpaper. Stylistically, too, the 1960s design of the sofa and the other furniture and accessories contrasts with the classicist motif of the wallpaper and the door and ceiling mouldings.
Material mix with living room wallpaper
The living room also lends itself to being a space in which different surface materials can be combined. In the example, the Pepite wallpaper by Élitis is used. In terms of colour, the wallpaper picks up the colour of the concrete as a background and the colours of the sofa for its motif.
While the floor, table and accessories are characterised by smooth surfaces, the wallpaper and the somewhat more rustic armchair create a connection to the natural garden.
Scandinavian wallpaper in the living room
The art of Scandinavian wallpaper design is to fit harmoniously into very different living rooms despite striking motifs. The Oak Tree wallpaper by the Swedish designer brand Långelid / von Brömssen is pleasantly restrained despite its dense leaf and squirrel motif due to its calm colouring. The motif, which is actually very classic, has been discreetly modernised by Emma von Brömssen. That is why the wallpaper can also be combined with modern furniture and accessories.
Neutral wallpaper in the living room
If wallpapers with more neutral colours are used in the living room, these can be contrasted with bolder shades. While the Lighthouse Palm wallpaper by Paint & Paper was used here in a more neutral colour variation and the ceiling was painted in a neutral off-white shade, the coffered elements in Pavilon Grey by Farrow & Ball and the floor in the Beverly shade, also by Farrow & Ball, set striking accents.
