Kit Kemp's exceptional mix of styles

Anyone who loves a confident mix of styles should take a closer look at the by English interior design studio Kit Kemp.
Kit Kemp Studio is one of the style-defining English interior design studios of recent decades. Founder and namesake Kit Kemp's group of companies also runs the exclusive Firmdale Hotels in New York and London.
The studio's collaboration with wallpaper brands such as Andrew Martin and GP & J Baker brings Kit Kemp's distinctive style to the wall in two highly successful collections. It is an eclectic mix of British heritage chic, ornate patterns combined with intricate handcrafted details and bold colour combinations.

The unconventional style is reminiscent of boho in some places, as many patterns appear similarly playful and unconventional. Nevertheless, the patterns and interiors designed by Kit Kemp always remain structured and well thought out.
The variety results from the different sources of inspiration from which the team draws: centuries-old British design and textile culture, sometimes with folk elements, are just as much a part of it as modern art and traditional, typically English wallpaper patterns.

Despite the unmistakable signature of the Kit Kemp design studio, the patterns can be used in a variety of ways. Bold colours and restrained patterns alternate and invite harmonious combinations.
This is also demonstrated by the studio's latest collaboration, in which Minnie Kemp, Kit Kemp's daughter, worked together with the wallpaper label Mindthegap. Some of Mindthegap's existing wallpapers were reinterpreted, while Minnie Kemp developed some new patterns.

Stefan Ormenisan, founder and creative director of Mindthegap, was delighted with the collaboration: ‘For the first time in our young history, we worked with external creatives. It was a special experience to see existing wallpapers anew through the eyes of Minnie Kemp. Her flair for patterns, print looks and colours led to surprising new versions of our wallpapers.’
